On December 9 & 10th, 2016, the Milwaukee Public Schools hosted a private screening of MILWAUKEE 53206 for seventy staff members in hopes of helping school administration better support the many public school students who are directly affected by mass incarceration. MPS Equity Specialist, Dr. Latish Reed states, “As a school district, we felt that it was extremely important to view this documentary. Many of our staff gained a better understanding of the issues some of our students and families face. In our debriefing, we took the time to discuss their reactions, but also brainstormed possible actions we, as a district, can take to make sure that we meet the needs of our students, families, and the community. This was a powerful way to begin critical conversations we must continue to have.
