On October 5, 2016 The Children’s Community Health Plan (CCHP) hosted a private screening of MILWAUKEE 53206 for over 100 staff members. CCHP Vice President Mark Rakowski made opening remarks and noted that 53206 is not only a community in which they serve but for some of their staff members it’s the place they call home. There were two screening sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to accommodate the staff’s schedules. The screening was followed by a panel discussion and Q &A that was moderated by Sue Thiel RN, MSN Manager of the Healthy Mom Healthy Baby program. The panel included film subjects Beverly Walker, Dennis Walton and Chad Wilson. The panelists discussed their personal stories, the issue of mass incarceration and the direct impact it has on their lives, their families and their community. Odyssey Networks discussed the MILWAUKEE 53206 social impact campaign, Strengthening Communities, Healing Families: Overcoming the Effects of Mass Incarceration. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the complex and far-reaching issues surrounding mass incarceration and support those who are committed to changing social norms and laws that will repair the lives of individuals, families, and communities devastated by the multi-generational effects of mass incarceration.
